The preserved section of the Roman wall is located a few meters from the Lion's Gate. Its construction predates the municipal status acquisition by Ilerda (26-16 CE) during the reign of Emperor Augustus. It was built using the rocky structures of that area, and later added in the same place were the end wall of the Andalusian citadel (9th to 10th century), the medieval walls (14th century) and the military fortification (19th century).
